Engineering Holiday Magic at Scale
Throughout my career as a technology consultant, I’ve had the opportunity to bring complex and creative projects to life — but one of the most memorable was a massive, computer-controlled Christmas light installation that redefined what was possible with Christmas lighting technology at the time. Spanning five city blocks, the project featured multiple synchronized displays, with one of the most technically ambitious elements being a fifty-universe DMX setup powering forty-five custom RGB LED Christmas ornaments. Each ornament stood three feet tall and was suspended forty feet above the street, animated in harmony with music. In its day, this project showcased not only the scale and complexity of Christmas lighting systems, but also the fusion of artistry and engineering in public visual experiences.
